How would you like to read a provocative and meaningful book and
discuss it with students, faculty and staff across campus with no grades
attached?
Reading the book gives you a leg up on the academic expectations
at Cal Poly. PREFACE: The Cal Poly Shared Reading Program offers you
the opportunity to
learn how to read a book and discuss it at the university level.
PREFACE is an exciting program that creates a rare opportunity for
the entire campus community of students, faculty, and staff
-- across all disciplines-- to share a common intellectual
experience. This year, the entire
campus community will read Granny D: You’re Never Too
Old to Raise a Little Hell by Doris Haddock and Dennis Burke.
You are expected
to read the book during the summer.
You should finish reading Granny
D by the end of summer. When you arrive on campus for WOW (Week
of Welcome), you will meet in small
groups to discuss
the book on Wednesday, September 15, 2004. Then, on October 15,
2004 as the highlight of PREFACE, you will have the opportunity to
meet the author, have
your book signed, and hear them speak.
Below are pdf files you should
print to complete your PREFACE Packet of Information. These supplemental
documents are for your review
and should assist you as you read Granny D.
